Best and worst video game covers Q1 2013

Editor: Darryl Linington

Q1 is pretty much over and various video games have either been put up on a pedestal or stomped into the ground. While we generally focus on critiquing the game itself, we now shift our focus on the best and worst looking video game covers of Q1 2013.

Kicking things off, let’s take a look at the some of the best looking covers of Q1.

As an obvious choice, Bioshock: Infinite graces this opinion piece as one of our best looking covers for Q1 2013. This is due to the cover art being impacteful, dramatic and eye catching. Even now it still immediately catches my attention when I walk into a video game store.

DMC: Devil May Cry also features as one of the best looking covers as it is impactful, attractive to the eye and colourful. Additionally, Dante looks pretty badass on the cover.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is still one of the best games I have had the opportunity to play. Its cover is simple, yet beautiful at the same time. It is not overly complicated nor is it unattractive in anyway.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time also features some rather attractive box art. It is colourful, eye catching as well as appealing to all ages.

While the above mentioned games feature some of the most attractive covers, we now shift our attention on the worst looking video game covers of Q1. While these games might not be that bad, they certainly deserved better covers than what they received.

Anarchy Reigns is quite honestly a fun game to play; however, its cover just looks cheap. It looks as though various characters have been pasted onto a colourful background with a bit of text and signage. While I am not a graphic designer, I am pretty sure I could have done a better job.

Omerta: City of Gangsters features a cover that just seems massively cliche. Quite honestly, if the character on the front cover sported a yellow suit you would swear that this was inspired by Dick Tracy… or something else that came out of the archaic 90′s. It looks cheap as well as uncreative. Furthermore it looks as though it has been designed in a rush. And what’s with the weird glow around the character on the front of box?

The Overlord, the master, the one who tries to get things done… I think they call it the “Editor-in-Chief”… I may even be cooler than Master Chief, but that remains to be questioned.

Bioshock for me takes the cake largely because of the reversible cover. I love look of the alternate cover

Couple that with the fact that they released even more alternate covers on their web site and you have a recipe for WIN.

Yeah the one’s on the site were pretty awesome as well.

I can agree about the Anarchy Reigns cover, it looks cheapish :/

I quite like the Dark Arisen cover.
