Duncan Jones to direct Warcraft film

Source Code and Moon director Duncan Jones will be directing Legendary Pictures’ adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s Warcraft, according to a story by The Hollywood Reporter. The story was later confirmed with a message on the official World of Warcraft Twitter account.

Warcraft will be Jones’ most expensive film to date, with Source Code previously occupying the top spot with a $35 million budget. Warcraft’s budget is expected to exceed $100 million.

The film is being written by Blood Diamond and X-PAX writer Charles Leavitt and Legendary is aiming for a fall 2013 start with an eventual release in 2015. Blizzard is a key part of the production, with Blizzard senior vice president Chris Metzen acting as a co-producer. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce alongside Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Alex Gartner.

The Overlord, the master, the one who tries to get things done… I think they call it the “Editor-in-Chief”… I may even be cooler than Master Chief, but that remains to be questioned.
